How is Boxing played?

After the weigh-in and the referee's instructions, the bout runs over numbered rounds. Only the padded front of the glove above the belt line counts, and the judges score each round independently.

What are the rules of Boxing?

• A bout ends by knockout, technical knockout, a stoppage by the referee or ringside doctor, retirement, disqualification or the judges' decision.
• Scoring follows the ten-point-must system: the winner of a round gets ten points, the other fewer. Knockdowns and point deductions shift the round score.
• Bouts are fought within weight classes, and the weigh-in is usually held the day before.
• Four major bodies — WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO — award their own world titles, and a title can also be vacant.
• An interim title is awarded when the reigning world champion is unable to defend for a longer period.

What equipment do you need for Boxing?

Gloves, mouthguard, groin protector and hand wraps. Headgear is used only in certain amateur and youth formats, never in professional world title fights.

How long does a game of Boxing last?

Preliminary bouts run 4 to 10 rounds, major men's title fights up to 12. A round lasts three minutes, with one minute between rounds.
