Darts is a precision sport in which two individual players or pairs take turns throwing three darts each at a board of numbered segments. In the main professional format, a score of 501 is reduced to exactly zero as efficiently as possible.

How is Darts played?

A visit consists of up to three darts. Their value is subtracted from the remaining score. Whoever first finishes a leg on exactly zero wins it; depending on the tournament, a set number of legs or sets decides the match.

What are the rules of Darts?

• In the standard 501 format every leg starts at 501 points and is played straight in, double out.
• A visit comprises at most three darts; only a dart still lodged in the board when the score is called counts.
• The final dart of a leg must be a double or the inner bull (50).
• A throw that takes the remaining score below zero or leaves exactly one is a bust; the whole visit is then void.
• Players throw from behind the oche; in the standard set-up it sits 2.37 m from the face of the board, with the bull centre 1.73 m above the floor.
• Tournament formats additionally define whether legs or sets are played and who throws first in the deciding leg.

How long does a game of Darts last?

A short-format Pro Tour match usually takes about 15–30 minutes. A World Championship final played over sets can run for several hours.
