How is Field Hockey played?
Eleven players a side are on the pitch at any time and substitutions are essentially unlimited. Top-level international hockey is played in four quarters of 15 minutes.
What are the rules of Field Hockey?
The ball may only be played with the stick; dangerous play, obstruction and illegal body contact are penalised.
A penalty corner is awarded for offences by defenders inside the circle, among others. At FIH tournaments a 40-second countdown then runs.

Green, yellow and red cards lead to temporary suspensions or to being sent off.
In tournaments a tie can be decided by shoot-outs or another procedure.
What equipment do you need for Field Hockey?
Stick, shin guards, mouthguard and usually a hand protector. Goalkeepers wear at least a helmet, leg guards and kickers; on penalty corners outfield players may wear a face mask.
How long does a game of Field Hockey last?
Four quarters of 15 minutes, plus breaks and the clock stopping for penalty corners.
