Six against six: teams pass, set, and spike the ball over a 2.43 m high net. Volleyball and beach volleyball are both Olympic disciplines.
Played under the rally-point system: every rally earns one team a point. A set goes to 25 points (at least a 2-point lead), the deciding 5th set to 15. Each side may touch the ball a maximum of 3 times before it must cross over.
Jersey, shorts, indoor shoes; knee pads recommended; the libero wears a different colored jersey
No time limit; a typical match: 1–2 hours (3 or 5 sets)
In beach volleyball, only 2 players per team play on sand – the format became Olympic for the first time in Atlanta in 1996.
