Terms of Use

1. Scope

These Terms of Use govern your use of the SportOrbit platform (the "Platform"), operated by Timo Thurmayr, Bahnhofstraße 29, 83278 Traunstein, Germany. By using the Platform, you accept these terms.

2. Scope of service

SportOrbit is a sports information platform offering the following features:

• Overview of sports leagues, teams, and athletes from around the world
• Aggregated sports news from public RSS feeds
• Interactive mini-games with leaderboards (Quiz, Higher or Lower, Career Path, Guess the Player)
• Personal sport and league favorites (Follows)
• Interactive globe with sports venues (Spots)

The Platform is a non-commercial project in beta. There is no entitlement to permanent availability or to any specific feature.

3. Registration and account

Accounts may only be created by persons aged 16 or over. This follows Article 8 GDPR: in Germany, consent to the processing of personal data requires a minimum age of 16.

Some features (Follows, game scores, leaderboards) require registration with an email address and password. You agree to:

• provide truthful information when registering
• keep your login credentials confidential
• notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account

Only one account per person is permitted. We reserve the right to suspend accounts without prior notice if abuse is suspected.

4. Permitted use

Use of the Platform is permitted for private, non-commercial purposes only. In particular, the following are prohibited:

• Automated retrieval of content (scraping, bots)
• Manipulating game scores or leaderboards by technical means
• Circumventing access restrictions or security mechanisms
• Using the Platform in a way that harms or harasses third parties
• Redistributing or commercially exploiting content from the Platform

5. Content and copyright

Sports news displayed on SportOrbit originates from public third-party RSS feeds. We make no guarantee as to its accuracy, completeness, or currency. Copyright in this content remains with the respective providers.

Sports data, player profiles, and league information are aggregated from publicly available sources. In detail:

• Leagues, teams, and rosters: hand-researched and maintained.
• Championship history: Wikidata (CC0).
• Standings and schedules: football-data.org (football) and Highlightly, sports.highlightly.net (basketball, ice hockey, handball, volleyball, rugby, cricket, baseball). Not available for every league.
• Individual season statistics: API-Sports (api-sports.io).
• News: public RSS feeds from more than 50 sports newsrooms, including Sportschau, kicker, BBC Sport, The Guardian, and Sky Sports.
• Venues and clubs near you: OpenStreetMap, queried via the Overpass API. The data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL), © OpenStreetMap contributors.
• Globe imagery: NASA Earth Observatory (“Earth at Night” / Black Marble) and country borders from Natural Earth. Both public domain.

Copyright and database rights remain with the respective providers. A more detailed overview is available on the Data Sources page.

6. Availability

We aim for the highest possible availability but cannot guarantee it. Maintenance, technical faults, or changes made by third-party providers (Supabase, rss2json, Anthropic) may cause outages. No claim for damages arises from unavailability.

7. Limitation of liability

The Platform is operated as a beta project without commercial intent. Use is at your own risk. We are not liable for:

• Errors, omissions, or outdated sports data and news
• Loss of game scores or follows due to technical faults
• Damages caused by third-party services (Supabase, RSS sources, etc.)
• Indirect damages or loss of profit

8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time. The self-service deletion feature is available in your profile. Once deleted, all stored data (follows, game scores, badges) is permanently removed.

9. Changes to these Terms of Use

We reserve the right to amend these Terms of Use. Material changes will be communicated to registered users by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by German law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The place of jurisdiction is Traunstein, Germany. For consumers, the law of their country of residence applies instead where mandatory.
